my cats refused to eat iams lol they werent having any of it.
i would read on the side of the packet it will tell you when you can feed the cat adult cat food.
Iams is not the best food any more. If you want a healthy cat with less problems feed your cat Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance, Royal Canin, Max Cat, Merrick – all are much better. And feed both canned and dry each day.
A cat can start eating adult foods after 5-6 months old. They do not have to stay on kitten food after 5 or 6 months old.
As far as the mouse? Do not pick it up unless you have gloves on and then put it outside, the mouse will die soon – more due to fright it doesn’t have internal damage from the cat.
I do regular feedings for ALL cats.. but with kittens they get a lot more food and it often lasts them most of the day.
You can start cutting back on food for kittens between 9-12 months, depending on how big they are. Large breed cats have kittenhoods that last several years and should be fed more more often then smaller cats. If your kitty starts feeling chunky, cut back on food. If you feel bones, feed more.
Iams is actually a pretty low quality food. I feed foster kittens what ever is donated, and I have the worst time getting them to eat anything from Iams or Science Diet. These are street kittens who are often starved and underweight.. to read more about feline nutrition check out http://www.catinfo.org a website run by a vet who studies feline nutrition.
