I don’t use rawhides, BUT, if you are going to, they need to be given only when you are supervising the dog. Brand doesn’t matter, but be CERTAIN that they were manufactured in the United States. Argentina, Brazil, and China are big makers of rawhides, too-and their manufacturing standards are not high, and rawhides of foreign origin have sickened many dogs. My favorite chew toy for my dogs is the Nylabone Souper Bone in Wolf-Size. Very strong, lasts for years. Galileo is a good one, too. Stay away from the smaller Nylabones-get the ones for aggressive chewers. If you are going to buy rawhides, you can buy pressed ones (less likely to be choked on or cause an obstruction) or buy large ones that the dog can’t swallow the knuckle of.
Rawhides are unsafe for dogs especially puppies. A good alternative is pork chops (they are highly digestible and my dog seems to love them). Also good for teething is a kong (filled with kong stuffin), chilly bone (cloth bone that you can wet and freeze.
Yes, I believe rawhides ARE bad for dogs, but I do give them occasionally. I give only the compressed, naturally treated rawhides because they can’t tear off big chunks that can cause blockages, and it takes them much longer to chew through them.
Generally speaking, other products are better. My dogs aren’t that interested nylabones, but LOVE bully sticks and other roasted, dried animal products. Cured beef tracheas are kinda cool, because they make a neat sound when they chew them and my dogs love them.

Good Luck!
I have been giving my dogs rawhides for decades, and have never had a problem.
I will say that I now give them long rawhides that have no knots in them (its easy to choke on knots), and I researched the manufacturer to make sure they were coming from the US and not China.
Small dogs can chew big rawhides (I have discovered, since my small dogs sometimes steal the big dogs), and it may actually be safer, because they cant wad them up and swallow them whole.
I buy mine in the bulk area of Winco…..they are much cheaper, and the ones they have there do not peel off into large pieces that may cause a problem.
If you are worried, you could try Nylabones. My dogs completely consume even the "inedible" ones, and frankly that worried me more than the rawhides.
Rawhides ARE bad. They don’t digest well and can cause blockages, sometimes needing surgery.
Plus, they’re treated with bleach, arsenic, and tons of other chemicals. Not something I’d give to my dog!
Try offering nylabones, cow hoof, or cow ankle. Those are better.
Rawhide is bad for dogs, it isn’t easily digestible and is treated with dyes and bleaches.
Don’t give rawhides with knots to a puppy. Sometimes they can chew the knot apart and they tend to swallow the pieces which can lead to a whole host of problems. I give my German Shepherd puppy Dentley’s from petsmart.
Rawhide bones can cause blockages, which can be fatal. The only way I’d give my dog rawhides is if they were NATURAL, not BLEACHED. Also, you need to supervise the dog with them to make sure he/she doesn’t break off large pieces which cause the blockages.
Instead, why don’t you try:
