Is Nutro-Max pet food the same as Wal-mart pet food?
From a news article: "Menu Foods last week recalled "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food. The recall sparked concern among pet owners across North America. It includes food sold under store brands carried by Wal-Mart, Kroger, Safeway and other large retailers, as well as private labels such as Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba."
I want to feed my cat high-quality cat food. But this recall has given me the feeling that they are making the same food and slapping different labels on them. Am I wrong to think this?

They are not the same – there are 3 really big canning firms that do almost 100% of all canned pet food in North America. Each company makes its own formula and then contracts with the cannery to produce and can it. The common thread between Nutro and all the others is a common ingredient. Just for the record, Menu produces other top shelf brands that were not affected because they don’t use wheat gluten which is an inexpensive filler. Nutro is certainly not a bad food but there are others of far higher quality. With respect to food for cats and dogs, corn wheat and soy should be avoided entirely but that is especially true for cats which are obligate carnivores.

I also feed my cats Nutro, but since ours is dry and not on that list it has been fine.
