Hi, all –
I’ve read that adding some freshwater aquarium salt to my tank (26 gallons) can have several benefits. However, I’ve also heard that the salt can damage plants and corydoras. Likewise, though, I’ve also heard that in lower concentrations, corys and plants can still do okay.
What’s your personal verdict? Can you provide a link or go into detail about personal experience on this? Thanks in advance!

I have 1 male swordtail, 2 female swordtails, 1 male mollie, and 1 Cory cat. How much aquarium salt should I put in? I already put in 1 tablespoon. They’re in a 10 gallon tank.

I heard that bettas like a little bit of aquarium salt in their water. How much should I add to my 5 gallon tank with 1 betta?
Are there any benefits to adding it?

I have a freshwater aquarium with different types of tetras in it. I have a white salty looking crust that gets all over the outside from the filter splash.
I don’t put aquarium salt in so its not that. What could it be and is there anything I can use to keep it from forming. It doesn’t seem to hurt the fish at all but its a mess to clean.

I have a Betta fish which I keep in a 1 gallon of water in a vase. I do a full water change about once a week with bottled spring water. My fish recently came down sick and I am treating it with medicine but I heard aquarium salt should be added to the water to help speed up the healing process. How much do I add? Do I just add some every time I do a full water change or just when he’s sick?

This probably sounds like a stupid question, but a trio of guppies just came in the mail, and I have some aquarium salt to add in to reduce stress. Do I just dump the salt in, or what? How much salt do I need? (It’s a 5 gallon breeder tank).
Finally, is it safe to use pantyhose as a means to cover the filter? I am planning on breeding these fish and I do not want the fry to get sucked up.

I have just bought Aquarium salt for my hermit crab, its made by the ATI brand and it’s salt crystals and it’s 454g. Anyway I am planning on making two bottles, 1 for his freshwater and the 2nd for his saltwater. What I need to know is how much salt to add to my saltwater solution per litre of water. Anyway Hermit onwers know how much they add per litre? Thanks.

Follow up to a previous question. If I don’t use aquarium salt how do I a make the water softer and the ph lower? The water where I live is very hard and I heard that the chemicals to lower ph are toxic to fish and can make them sick. I thought about using spring water in my tank but that could become costly in the long run.

I am looking to buy a fish aquarium. I have looked on craigslist, and found a nice tank that I want. The only problem is, is that it was a saltwater aquarium. Can I clean it and use it as a freshwater tank? Or will it kill my fish? If you need aquarium salt for some freshwater fish, will it be ok?

I have a black moor that is beat up pretty good. I have him in a tank with two albino corys.
I have some aquarium salt and some Melafix. (not yet, but I’m going to have them) The water that he is in was dechlorinated and I put some Stress Coat in there earlier. When my husband gets home with the Melafix and the aquarium salt, should I use only one or can I use both at the same time?
He’s got some pretty good tears on his back, his eye, and his tail is tattered. I discovered earlier that my Tiger Barbs as well as my Serpae Tetra were attacking him. When I pulled the Barbs out, the Serpae took over. So I switched the tanks and put the Moor in the 10 gal and put the Barbs back into the 40 gal.
Another situation — I still have a Beta in the tank with the Barbs and the Serpae — He may be a target now that my Moor is gone. But still yet, I can’t pull him out and put him in the 10 gal because the water will be too cold for him. Any suggestions?
