I was wondering, are acrylic bird cages ok for birds? Are their any problems or things I should consider about them? I was looking at www.Cagesbydesign.com , and www.acrylicbirdcages.com cages. Are these ok suppliers? Does anybody else have any reasonably priced acrylic cage suppliers? Thanks!!!

My local store ran out of the bird seed I normally buy but had thistle seed. I put it in my regular bird feeders, but then my grandmother told me I needed to put it in a finch feeder for the birds to eat it.

Is this true?

I read that you can put crushed chicken egg shells in wild bird feed to help the birds get the extra calcium they need for their own eggs. Anyone else try this?

I assume they need to be cooked egg shells so as not to pass on any diseases – but I find the egg shells difficult to crush as small as I think they need to be – I’ve tried crushing them with a mallet, the food processor and manually – but they stick together and don’t crush well. Anyone have a good trick for doing this?

Is it bad or damaging to a bird to keep it in a cage all the time? I really don’t like to see any animal caged or chained up. That’s why I’d never get anything small i’d have to keep in a tank or cage. A friend of mine has birds and I keep telling him that he should let them go and fly around the house.

i dont own any birds now but i will, and i am fully aware of the committment involved, i wont get all these birds at once, and have spent hours researchng each bird that i want. now back to the point, i know each bird needs one on one time, but they also all need out of cage time so how can i provide this for each bird? thanks!
