I just recently (last week) got a kitten from my veterinarian. Raea is very sweet and lovable, but she just started peeing outside of her litter box, where she sleeps!!!
When I’m not home I confine her in the bathroom with her litter box, a blanket or towel and her food and water. The other day she hopped up onto her blanket and peed! I removed the blanket, washed it and won’t give it back, for fear that she’ll smell her urine and repeat the process. She just peed on the towel I put down to replace the confiscated blanket. I don’t have (and have never had) any other cats that could have peed on the towels or blankets. I do have a dog, but she NEVER pees in the house.
I do, however, live in an apartment. I could understand her going on the carpet if the previous tennants had cats (BUT, she’s only done that once, where I sat the peed on blanket down on the floor before running it over to the washer). I’m planning on getting new litter later to see if that will help. Any suggestions?
Well, I took the lid off of the litter box that I purchased for her (one of those Budda Domes), and that seems to have done the trick. Apparently she is afraid of the dark.
We’re going to the vet Saturday for her shots… so she’ll get a little check up then.
Yes… Astraea (Greek Godess of Justice = I’m a law student, haha) will hopefully get over being afraid of the lid. I spent too much (for a grad student budget) on the dang litter box for her to be afraid of it!!!
She’s very peculiar… she nuzzles, massages and sometimes even sucks on my flokati rug in my living room!!! I’ve resorted to spraying her with water to get her to stop (I dont want her to chew off some of the rug and block her intestines!!!)
We’ll see, she is a very cuddly friendly kitten, I can’t wait to see what our future holds in store for us :-D
Thanks for any responses!

How often do you clean out your dog's crate?

How often do you just give it a general tidy up (tidying up the bed/blankets, removing old toys, half eaten chews, etc)?

How often do you give it a thorough clean where you take out the bed and wash that and wash the inside of the crate too?
To the person who says crating is cruel. Go and educate yourself on the topic of crating before you criticise people on something you clearly know nothing about mmmmkay? Crating is anything but cruel when done properly.

what allergy medicine for pet rat?

One of my rats seems to have developed allergies to the laundry soap and gets distressed if his blankets and hammocks are more than a day dirty. I have changed to sensitive laundry soap and he is currently in a different room than his cage mates on clean towels. I am familiar with respiratory illnesses in rats, but this is only in his nose and he stops sneezing and wheezing if I have just cleaned the cage and now that he is in a isolated room.
Any vet out there no of what I can get for him to help his allergies? I don’t want to use a steroid, because it will lower his immune system. Usually , we use childrens antihistimine (without aspirin) but it is not working.
I am wondering if there is a allergy medicine (similiar to human med Claritin) that would allow him to go back into the cage with his buddies for the weekend until I can get him to my vet .
Yup, it’s the Tide. Poor thing. I liked the post about antibiotics and steaming, all of which I know about, but it was very knowledgable.
Tomorrow I am going to wash every rat hammock and clothes in unscented detergent and he shall be moving in with two new baby boys in a ‘clean’ room.

how long is too long to crate a dog?

I work 8 hour shifts and have to put my pit bull in his crate or he chews up EVERYTHING. I cannot even put pillows or blankets in the crate or he will destroy them. Is it inhumane to crate a dog for that long a day? He is taken on twon 45 minute walks a day, but that doesn’t even help =( Please help, I feel horrible.

Why does my dog pull things into her crate?

Whenever I get up in the morning to let the dog out of her crate, she has pulled anything and everything into her cage.

Towels, blankets, Xbox controller, toys, papers.

Anything she can reach.
We have her crate behind the desk. (The apartment is tiny and the crate is huge)

Why does she do this??

I have two male rats, who are around the ages of 2 1/2 years and 1 1/2 years. I am going away to college in about a month and I, sadly, cannot take my precious babies.

I currently have them housed in a "My First Home Deluxe Multi-Level Large".

The measurements are

I am helping out at a pet store that is closing (I work at one of them, but at a different location) and they have a ferret nation 142 for 50% off, and I can get an employee discount and a discount for turning in my current cage, which was worth about 75$ when I bought it.

Well, my parents won’t be able to let my two males roam as much while I’m away, and I was wondering if it is worth it to get a bigger cage. Also, the cage I have now is extremely light and easy to clean. I know the Ferret Nation is very heavy, I want to know how easy it is to clean. I use blankets as bedding.
I don’t want my parents to have to lift heavy things/unassemble with tools to have to give the cage a weekly cleaning.
What I’m trying to ask if the cage I have now better for my parents or would the Ferret Nation be easier (and make my rats happier)

My dad would probably just pour vinegar on the cage and hose it off to clean it.
And I was wondering if the ferret nation 142′s second level comes off without much of a struggle.

I got a little dog house for when it gets cold in LA this winter and my dog doesn’t seem to want to hang out in there. Will she sleep in there when she needs to be warmer or did I waste my money? I tried blankets and treats and they just got dragged out to the yard. How do I get her to like her dog house?

He never gets up out of it when we are in the house.
It is really cozy, and there are blankets he sleeps with.
He snuggles the bed a lot. Like curling up and closing eyes, even when it is hot inside the house.
I think my chihuahua is emotionally attached to his doggy bed. :O
Hehehe..

Is there a dog bed that my dog wont destroy?

I have a 60lb Australian Shepherd who’s a great, well trained dog but for whatever reason he can’t resist chewing on blankets and soft dog beds. Nothing else, just blankets and soft dog beds. He has a metal crate but I really want to get a dog bed for him and put away the crate. Does anyone know of any comfy dog beds that he can’t destroy?

Thanks!
