I have two new kittens and they are using my leather sofa as a scratching post. I have a scratching post for them and have taught them how to use it but they still insist on using my sofa. My husband is getting upset and I need an answer as soon as possible. I have ordered soft paws to see if they help but do not know anyone that has used them. Any ideas on how to stop them or should I just wait until the soft paws arrive and keep them in a confined area until they do and hope they work?

We’ve just bought two 3 month old, kittens and the spare bedroom where they now live smells of the cat food. The litter tray doesn’t seem too bad, apart from when you pick up the poo. What are the best products to use?
Also, does anyone know of any good devices of storing cat poo, making it easier than having to put in a bag and take it out to the garbage every time?
We bought a self distributing dry food feeder. Is it bad for the cat to have a supply of food permanently available or should you put food out at specific intervals?
Also, how often should you change the water in a self distributing water dispenser? After 2 days it’s already bubbled up and looks old to me, but the kittens are still drinking it.

Is it possible to tech a cat not to scratch anything but its scratching post before it even starts scratching anything else? My mom has agreed to get a cat but she wants it declawed before even giving it a chance to learn to use a scratching post. The kitten will be staying in an area with no furniture for the first few weeks so if I teach it to use a scratching post in its room will it start to scratch furniture when it’s allowed to go anywhere in the house? I really do not want to get the cat declawed. If she doesnt agree to let my try to train it i dont want to get a cat but she’s a little reluctant to get one so i’m not gonna tell her this untill after we decide what cat we want (shes a sucker for kittens) and they wont let you get a cat if the whole family doesnt agree. If i told her that before she’d just say goot and stick to the fact that she wants it declawed so she doesnt have to deal with a cat. are there any alternatives to declawing? I know about soft paws already. And I heard about a surgery where all they do is cut the tendon that allows the cat to move its claws…is that more humane than declawing? Does you cat scratch furniture of has it ever? my mom would agree to let it not be declawed if the furniture wouldn’t still be ruined during training because she said even if i trained it by the time it learned the furniture would still be in shreads. What if I used double sided tape on the leather couches and booby trapped the fabric couches by pinning cans with coins in them on the couch? how long did it take you to teach your cat not to scratch furniture? thanks for all your help.
the question about the other surgery was it it more humane to do that or declawing not if it IS humane because I know it’s not.

I am planning on adopting a kitten from a shelter, for around 70 dollars with shots and spay/neuter.
However, i recently found a woman who was giving away kittens for free, however they are really little, so by the time i get them, they will be on wet food and i will have to find a vet to give shots and neuter her/him.
What to do?

I bought the two greenies dental chews yesterday because they were on sale. I will buy more even know they are a little pricey, but I want to know do they work. Since mine felines are kittens they pretty much have white teeth and good breath. But I want to keep it that way. So so these treats really work. Has anyone used these and noticed improvement’s???
Thanks to all who answer in advance!!

My cat had kittens and we still have two but I can not train them to use the litter box, they’re about 6 weeks old and are eating regular food now. We have one litter box for the mom cat that she knows how to use, but the two kittens will not use it as well. Do I need to get a separate litter box or how should I make them learn to use it?
