At what age is it best to neuter a rat?
2 male rats from a breeder, and I want to reduce risk of aggressive behavior towards humans as well as each other.
I just bought two male Rats yesterday, and wow, didn’t realize how strong the urine odors actually are. I have never owned Rats before, so i’m new at this. The pet store employee told me to use the bedding that they use, so I do, but that is obviously not helping. Can anyone let me know from experience, what you do for your pet Rats as far as cutting down on the smell? Thanks.
my 2 male rats have 2 bird toys in their cage, which they don’t really play with. i put a ping pong ball in, which they roll about from time to time. they also have 2 hammocks. if i get a dog rope toy and tie somewhere in the cage, will they climb up it.
I have two male rats, who are around the ages of 2 1/2 years and 1 1/2 years. I am going away to college in about a month and I, sadly, cannot take my precious babies.
I currently have them housed in a "My First Home Deluxe Multi-Level Large".

I am helping out at a pet store that is closing (I work at one of them, but at a different location) and they have a ferret nation 142 for 50% off, and I can get an employee discount and a discount for turning in my current cage, which was worth about 75$ when I bought it.
Well, my parents won’t be able to let my two males roam as much while I’m away, and I was wondering if it is worth it to get a bigger cage. Also, the cage I have now is extremely light and easy to clean. I know the Ferret Nation is very heavy, I want to know how easy it is to clean. I use blankets as bedding.
I don’t want my parents to have to lift heavy things/unassemble with tools to have to give the cage a weekly cleaning.
What I’m trying to ask if the cage I have now better for my parents or would the Ferret Nation be easier (and make my rats happier)
My dad would probably just pour vinegar on the cage and hose it off to clean it.
And I was wondering if the ferret nation 142′s second level comes off without much of a struggle.
I have two pet male rats and can’t think of good names for them! Everything always sounds like cat and dog names.
I bought a rodent shampoo from the pet store and it does nothing to eliminate their smelly odour ( they go back to smelling yucky again)! Is dog shampoo safe to use on a rat or not?
I have male rats, I clean their cage every day ( change the newspaper and replace it with new newspaper, scrub and wash the tray and wipe it) I wash the cage twice a week and they still manage to smell it up, I read somewhere that rats do their business in one corner of the cage, well NOT my rats!! I go in there to clean it and they have poo in their hammocks, which in case you don’t know is were they sleep!
They also have poo on their sitting bench and basically in ever nook and cranky of the cage, which I then must then resort to picking the poo out with a very small tooth pick or it wont come out. What is worse is that they poo in mid air! Yup you’ve heard it all flying pigs and rats that poo in air. Now the poo lands on the floor and my dog eats it….. I suspect they even roll in their own poo. Now I love my rats to bits which is why I’m putting up with their nasty habits and cleaning their cage so often. Thanks to all your answers and I’ll and look into some dog shampoos
