My dachshund is currently on Natural Balance, and he likes it. I know it’s human-grade food, but it’s not the most convenient food for me to purchase.
Any thoughts or opinions on the new Iams product are welcome.

Just wanted to pass along the latest info on the pet food recall. the pet food Natural Balance for dogs and cats has been recalled . I saw in the news that the chemical melamine, which has contaminated the wheat gluten in a lot of products, has been found in the rice protein concentrate ingrediant in the venesen and rice flavors in that brand. Everybody that has pets, please be careful. This recall just gets crazier and crazier.

Okay, this is beyond disturbing. Now another premium brand has recalled product and this time dry dog and cat food. NATURAL BALANCE update at t his link:

DP, I absolutely agree, and there is likely a common connection, too. Some foods that are ultra-premium have some of their ingredients processed thru the mega dog food plants. I am tired of investigators either not doing their job or not discussing the results. OR BOTH. Everything is "safe" until it is "recalled" but the recalled products come from the "safe" shelves, and I am about to go back to raw diet for my dogs.

If you search the internet you will find many many cases of cats getting sick or even dying from eating these foods, especially Special Kitty. All we ever fed our cat was Friskies and they seemed fine until about 2 weeks before the recall, they kept throwing it back up. I stopped feeding it to them and switched to Natural Balance but then the kind I was feeding them was recalled. I have been monitering them closely and they don’t seem affected. It was just a small bag of Green Pea and Venison split between 3 cats. I’m still feeding them Natural balance but not the recalled kind. I am thinking of switching to something else but I don’t want to feed them anything with Wheat gluten, rice, or anything made by Menu foods. The only thing I have found that isn’t is Natural balance and Halo and my cat refuse to eat Halo. I just wish that they would pull the Special Kitty and Friskies since it is making cats die. Is anyone still feeding their cat canned Friskies or Special Kitty?

and that’s just a few of the sites I found that had stuff on both these cat foods making cats sick or killing them.

On Saturday, I had a MEET THE ANIMALS day at my animal shelter. The shelter was full of animals, about 140 animals. We ended up finding a good (we researched them, visited their house, etc) and found a wonderful home for 100 ANIMALS. The day consisted of games and activites for the kids. We also taught them a bunch of things about dogs (training, feeding, walking on leashes, playing, and loving) and gave everyone free samples of Natural Balance, the food we use that we feel is great, treats, and coupons for pet stores and boutiques. We had a great outcome, and decided to have another one next month. What do you think would be a good idea? It will be probably the second or third weekend in July, so it’s going to be hot.
Also, all dogs go home:
-fixed if they are over 6 months, or get fixed FREE if they aren’t old enough
- sample of Natural Balance (the food we feed them)
- the collar, leash, and tag we used for each of them
An advertisement for Natural Balance? NO! We love the food, but it isn’t a advertisment. I only thought I said it maybe twice?
Yes, key is to attract those families that REALLY want to adopt. Those with the kids. We also had 5 "agressive breeds", but those were adopted by a rescuse center we love where they actually train the dogs (so they won’t hurt anyone) and find a loving, educated home. We aren’t able to train the dogs properly.

I know there are better ones like Solid Gold or Canidae, etc but my dogs do fine on Purina ONE Natural Blends Chicken and Oat Meal and they like it. I like it because it’s cheaper and you can find it at Target or Wal-Mart. So is this okay to feed them? They like the taste of it better than Solid Gold or Natural Balance…

I have been feeding my dog’s Nutro, because at Petsmart, it is one of the best brands they offer. However, I have been looking at Petco, since I found one near-ish to me, and have found some foods that look better. One is Natural Balance Original, one I saw listed in another post. It costs about more a bag, at least. Would it really be better for my dogs, or is Nutro a good dog food?
