I have a nestbox that I bought at petsmart and its for parakeets. How do I attach it from the outside?

I would like to make my own toys, houses, and nest boxes for my parakeets. Which materials are safe to use? So far I thought of a few things:
-hemp rope
-coconut shell (from grocery store)
-wood pieces (what kinds of wood and does it have to be organic?)
-birdhouse gourd or other gourds used for houses and nestboxes? Safe?

Can you suggest any other materials I could use to build stuff?
Do all the materials HAVE to be organic? Can I buy wood at the hardware store to use?

All this stuff is going into a gigantic aviary so they will have enough room, dont worry.

Does anyone have any plans for an indoor large bird cage? I really need some.

I want this to be for parakeets. And not TOO Big, just a standard petsmart LARGE cage. Im not talking room rize.

I have four parakeets in a huge cage that I clean everyday. For some reason, the cage smells as if I haven’t cleaned it in months. What can I do about the farm smell?

I’ve never kept birds before, but just today inherited 2 parakeets from my mother, who had them about a month. When she got them from the pet store they gave her a discount on one of the females because they were sure she’d die in the next 72 hours. According to the pet store she was egg bound, how-ever it’s been a little over a month and despite numerous hours of rubbing oil on her and keeping her warm, the bump is still hanging off her rear end. I’m going to add in a nesting box to see if that will help, but I’m thinking since she’s lived so long, that maybe the pet store was wrong and this is something else? I’d like to take her to the vet, but I just cannot afford it. So any ideas, expirences would be helpful! Thank You All!

I just brought 2 parakeets home, I have a cat and i thought all would be fine. I just found out she can get up on the desk they are on. We have been watching her to make sure she doesn’t get up there, but i found her sitting just looking at them. I don’t want to take any chances. Should I be so cautious? Can she knock the cage down?
