Is the a health insurance company that only covers veterinary services maybe called "FidoCare" or "BluePaws BlueTails" or maybe "Good dog health"

or do pet owners pay their veterinarians in full for medical necessity for their dog or cat?

I was wondering this for a long time since people have health insurance to cover their medical costs; is having a pet a bigger expense than some people think?

I just got a Great Dane pup and a Rottweiler mix pup so I am not sure what kind of insurance I should get for both of them. and is there cheaper rates for multiple pet owners because my growing Great dane is racking up the checks and my Rot is not too far behind.

Did you get your free bag of Iams?

This is an excerpt from their notice:

Effective immediately, we will take the added step of certifying the quality and purity of every new source of ingredients that our suppliers use in our products. Our specific approval will be required before any supplier can change any of our unique ingredients.

We recognize that this is an uncertain time for pet owners who may be unsure what they can feed their pets. You can feel confident that Iams dry food provides the highest-quality complete and balanced nutrition. And many veterinarians recommend Iams to help keep pets healthier, longer. As a gesture of our dedication to keeping your pets healthy and happy, we would like to invite the first 250,000 pet owners who register to receive a free 4-lb. bag of either our dry dog or dry cat food or equivalent value (up to .50 for dog and .00 for cat) off a larger-sized bag. This will exceed over 1 million pounds of free food.

Hey, at least they are trying. And you know that any food they put out now is going to checked and double checked.
As for testing animals, they used to farm their testing out, but now they do it humanely in-house. My cats love Friskies Gourmet Poultry dry, and Iams adult dry, of which they just finished an 18 lb bag, and they are healthy and happy…and alive.

I know the economy is hitting pet owners hard. Personally, I would never switch to a lower-priced dog food. What about you?

What is the pet supplies market missing?

I have recently set up a small business selling all types of pet supplies. It has been quite successful and I was just wondering what all you pet owners feel that this market is missing. I’m sure that all of us have thought of ideas for our pets that would make their lives more fun or easier for us to look after them. I would be grateful for your comments as I believe we can make this market better. Thanks in advance!

Eco Friendly pet health tips?

Hi everyone!

I am currently working on a newsletter for the vet clinic where I work and was looking for quick input. The theme is "Going Green: Eco friendly pet tips" and will cover natural foods, biodegradable litter, composting, and other environmentally friendly products on the market for pet care. Any suggestions on what you do to promote a green pet (cat, dog, fish, pocket pet, horse, anything!) would be greatly appreciated. I just recieved the assignment today and would love to hear from as many of you as possible as soon as possible.

Tell me what you do to go green. Even if it just using recycled materials, I would love to hear and share your suggestions (with your permission – so if you post, it may be published, so by posting here you are giving permission!) with our community, staff, and clientele.

Also – is there one big area of focus you are interested in as pet owners? While the major article will focus on tips in general, I have a secondary and tertiary article to address a particular area of eco friendly pet care in depth. What specific themes would you (as a pet owner) want to know more about? Would you rather read more about natural diets, grooming, waste disposal, specific products.. etc?

Thank you in advanced for all of your ideas and input. If any of you are interested in reading the final product, let me know and I will link you to it (it is posted online as well).

Just as a note so no one gets upset – I will be posting this question under general pet, dogs, and cats to make sure I can recieve a wider range of answers!
Yikes! Not a pet lover are we. Just to note though, animals on thier own are perfectly eco freindly (as they are a natural part of the environment and ecology). What makes pets not eco friendly is the support they require from humans, meaning it is the owners that are not eco friendly. All I am asking is for other people’s opinions on eco friend ways for the owners to care for thier pets – reducing that impact on the environment. If there is nothing educational or informative to be gained, then don’t bother to answer.

What do you think about Pet Insurance for Your Dog?

I went on Petco.com and I saw they suggest their pet owners to have pet insurance. What do you think about this? If you own a cat or dog, do you have insurance for your pet? Is getting insurance a good idea or a waste of money?

Please, no rude or inappropriate comments.
Thanks.
These are all really great answers!! Thank you so much!!!

What is the best pet insurance company?

Pet owners: If you have experience with pet insurance, what is your favorite and what offers most?
Same thing with my insurance – 9 times out of 10 I don’t use it but in case of emergency it’s there. If my dog is hit by a car and needs emergency surgery but at the moment I only have saved then what will I do? Stick to the question or shut up.

Poll: Refilling your pet's medications?

I need your opinion, pet owners!
I do a lot of work on my clinic’s website, and have been thinking that it might be worth our while to allow clients to put in for refills on their pet’s medication online rather than having to call. This would mean…
There would be a 3-business day wait for online refills as opposed to 24-hr for refills called in.
Any problems with refills would mean you would be contacted within 3 days rather than within the same day (ie, if your pet is due for bloodwork). This would not apply for any OTC meds, like vitamins, supplements, flea/tick control, or for heartworm prevention.

Would you use it? What are the pros/cons in your opinion?
