My vet recommended this and feeds it to his own dog, but I’ve heard nothing but negative things about it here. So here’s my question: What’s wrong with IAMS? Why does my vet think it’s fine, but people here don’t? What’s the basis for hating it? If my vet says it’s fine but some random person here says it’s not, who should I believe? Will it actually hurt my dog?
What should I be feeding her instead?
It seems like a lot of the hate for IAMS stems from this idea that no “good” dog food could possibly be sold in a grocery store. Is this just an ignorant misconception? After all, the huge majority of pet owners feet their animals whatever they pick up when they do their shopping, and their pets live long healthy lives.
I need more information about this, but please only answer if you really know what you’re talking about. I’m not looking for someone to repeat something they read by some random user on Yahoo! Answers as fact.
ziglet – Nah, I wasn’t actually hoping to debate the topic, since I don’t have enough information to take one side or the other anyway. I’m just looking for a solid reason to stop feeding my dog IAMS, if one exists.
Really, I think a lot of people take the anti-IAMS (and similar brands) stance without really having the information needed. That’s what leads to all of this conflicting information, and I just wanted to get the straight story.
br0k3nh34rt3d_angel – I feed my dog dry food, so it is not included in the recall. Only the wet food was recalled.
Rescueapitbull – Thank you for your answer, but I don’t trust a thing PETA says. They are known liars and always exaggerate. Over the years, they have just about convinced me that they exist just to seek attention to themselves, and they’ll say or do anything to achieve that.
Koosa1989 – I have always read that it was far better to feel a pet dry food, as it helped keep their teeth clean, while wet food does the opposite. What are the benefits of wet food?
br0k3nh34rt3d_angel – Also, I don’t believe there have been any deaths at all linked to IAMS. The deaths and sicknesses were due to other brands, but IAMS and Eukanuba have voluntarily decided to participate in the recall just to be safe, because they sometimes use the manufacturer in question. Thanks, though.
