Why Royal canin and iams are considered better quality cat food than whiskas…. don’t they all contain corn in them? what’s the difference?

where i live, whiskas is found in every supermarket while royal canin is only available at the vet. iams is available but in a far away grocery store.

do royal canin and iams contain less corn or better quality meat?

please advise…

they eat it though, i bought it because its supposed to be high quality cat chow becuase my cats deserves nothing but the best

but what should i do?
should i keep them on this or go back to the eukanba which they seem to enjoy.

now they dont go near the food bowl as much as they used to.
but theyh still eat alot.

and i did the mixing them together and slowy taking the eukanuba out.

now what?

My friends cat has tongue cancer, on top of that, she was recently just fired from her job for cost cut backs, and she can barely afford all the vet bills, let alone all the supplies she has to buy. I volunteered to buy whatever she needs for her cat. I am sending her a big care package, with everything it in (she lives in another state, so I have to ship it). I was just wondering if you guys know anyplace that will ship me quality cat supplies at low cost.

Ok, so I’m totally confused about quality cat foods. Can someone please just list the top 10 dry cat foods out there? And please don’t bother listing anything like Purina, Meow Mix, Friskies, Science Diet, etc. as I already know they are filled with way too many by-products, corn, carbohydrates, etc. Please just give me the premium brands as I don’t mind spending a little more for quality food. He was against the idea of better quality cat foods from the start! We originally had the cat on cans of Wellness trout and salmon and wellness CORE. He kept saying it was too expensive and it is totally pointless and the cat doesn’t care what she gets.. One day my boyfriend was so fed up with with this so called "nonsense" when Tigger was out of food I asked if my BF could go get him a few cans of Wellness for her. Since I was picking my little nephew up from preschool. Instead he bought a big bag of purina cat chow and 6 cans of friskies. He opened the bag so I wouldn’t be able to take it back and he gave the cat cat chow and friskies. And he said to Tigger as he looked at me "See Tigger" no need for the fancy smancy cat food. I bet this stuff is no different! I’m so mad at him! How can I help guide him in the right direction!
Oh and when I rushed to the bowl and snatched it away from Tigger my BF laughed at him and texted his friends about it. But purina is such a crappy food! it has fillers and dead,dying,and,diseased animal meat that had been rejected for human consumption. It is over all a disgusting food. I read the book "the food pets die for" and now I vowed to never feed those products again.
I gave him MY money to buy cat food so i’m not sure what he is so bothered about.

I see a lot of you frowning upon these foods, and my two adult male cats (8 years old in November) have all eaten Nine Lives, Friskies, and brands like it, their whole lives, and they’re all in tip-top shape. My kitten Heap (about 10-12 weeks) is on Meow Mix Kitten Kibbles. I’m just wondering if there is any real valid point behind all of the criticism, or if you all just expect everyone to be paying at least 10 dollars for a bag of ‘quality’ cat food?

yes, insulting my parenting skills isn’t rude at all. ;]

point is – my cats are all happy, healthy, and just as wonderful feeling as they would be on whatever ‘premium’ cat brands you could suggest.
…they just died a couple years ago. |: and no, my kitten is indoor, and my older males are indoor-outdoor, just as hers were. They actually have more land to roam on than she did.
indigo ; i hardly think something as drastic and serious as smoking is comparable to cats on a healthy diet, just not deemed the absolute best. It’s good for the money, and they enjoy it, and are all in a perfect state of mental and physical health.
another note — my vet says my cats current diet is completely fine for them.

Well, I am likely going to be adopting a stray cat that I have been feeding. She is a mega sweet longhair calico, and must have been someone’s pet at one time. None of the other strays ever want to be near me, and she wants scratches and belly rubs in a big way whenever I set food out.

Anyway, I am on the hunt for the best quality cat food I can get some petsmart. Why petsmart? A house mate of mine works there and gets a 15% discount on all purchases. I know Petsmart sells Blue Buffalo. But that isn’t a very very good quality brand like Innova Evo. I know more about dog food than cat food, to be honest.

The kitter is getting purina right now. Total crap, I know. But for the strays and ferals (who are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped because I trap them for TNR), crap food is better than no food. But for a pet, I personally want the best for her.

Mrs. Nick Jonas, Friskies is another terrible food. It is very low quality.
Yep, I know a good food costs more. But the better quality is worth it! The purina is for the stray kitties so they have something more than nothing.

Now that I’m convinced I need to stop feeding my cats Purina One, and get one with a good source of protein and no corn… I need to find a food.
I need to try to be economical about it. Though I want my cats to be healthy and less obsessed with food (which I’m suspecting is the low quality food).
I’m assuming a big store like Petco will have good prices, and they sell many brands (though it looks like Innova isn’t one of them… a brand I’ve seen suggested).

Is it possible to get a quality cat food at Petco?

From a news article: "Menu Foods last week recalled "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food. The recall sparked concern among pet owners across North America. It includes food sold under store brands carried by Wal-Mart, Kroger, Safeway and other large retailers, as well as private labels such as Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba."

I want to feed my cat high-quality cat food. But this recall has given me the feeling that they are making the same food and slapping different labels on them. Am I wrong to think this?

any other suggetions. I wish It didn’t have corn in it at all but as long as it isn’t one of the main ingredients its fine.
i read from vets it id fine to feed HIGH QUALITY cat food which is at least 33 percent or higher in protein. just never use generic cat foods. plus i have a kittem and it will be easier to buy a big bag of kitten chow (which is good because is is very high in protein but you CANNOT use CAT food. ) than it would to buy a bag of kitten chow and an expensive bag of ferret food.
