Dog supply stores with cheap shipping.?

Tax refunds are coming up, and with two new furry, doggy additions to my household, I would like to stock up on treats, get a large waterer (2 gal dispenser type), some better collars, leashes, bowls, etc… you know the drill. Bulk rawhide, bully sticks, toys… All that jazz.

With Drs. Foster and Smith– the shipping came to almost HALF what the entire order came to– and I realize that living in Alaska, my shipping is going to be a bit more expensive than the lower 48s, cool, whatever, but charging almost 50% of the original order cost is a bit rediculous– even for Alaska.

So– Yahooligans of the dog section– Which online dog supply company do YOU use, and what are your experiences with shipping and fair prices?
I should clarify– the reason I am looking for online companies is because there are no pet shops here– no PetCo, no PetSmart, just Safeway and Walmart– and lets face it– their selection sucks, and they charge too much.
Nope– no farming or feed stores.

Imagine a small town with about 8000 people– and just the usual tourist shop and bars… and a few grocery stores. Oh and a couple coffee stands. That’s where I live.

I usually head to the pet stores a day or two before Christmas. Last year I ended up snowed in and my pets had to settle for toys I could walk over and buy at the local Safeway.

This year I’ve been doing holiday photoshoots at several local pet stores and since they gave me an employee discount I picked up the "Fling-a-ma-string" for my cats at 40% off. My dog got a large plush gingerbread man squeaky that makes that strange deep moose-in-heat kinda sound LOL

I’m still gonna head out one day this week for gifts for my ferrets and stocking stuffers. Makes me feel like I have "kids" – though not the annoying skin ones LOL And yes – the stockings are all hung by the chimney with care http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2301740950046652437AEukwH
A litterbox, John? I’m sure it’s nice but that’s like giving someone a toilet for Christmas LOL The woodstove’s nice but my house needs some serious insulation. Very old and VERY drafty!

Pet food recall?

How do I know if the food that I have is contaminated? The brand name is priority total pet care, the date on the cans say august 5-10 09, its a variety pack and from bought from Safeway. My mom said that these were the cheapest and with the whole recall I think they were just trying to get rid of it? Is it safe for my dog to eat she already ate one and is acting normal, she cant eat dry food it has to be canned

I went ahead and got Purina One Kitten for them until I found some Science Diet- I’ve looked in Giant, Safeway- most of the local grocery stores and I can’t find it anywhere. They both have had diarrhea for two days and I’m worried. What can I do? Will they adjust to the new food?

I don’t mind losing 5 measley points if it’s going to save a dog or cat’s life ;-)

Menu Foods, the largest maker of WET pet foods has just announced a massive recall. This company makes pet foods for WalMart, Costco, Sams, Safeway, SuperValu, President’s Choice, just about any grocery store you buy your pet’s food in. The recall covers all of Canada, United States and Mexico. Check out the URL below to see if your fuzzy friend’s dinner is on the recall list. Be warned, it’s a huge list.

Is Nutro-Max pet food the same as Wal-mart pet food?

From a news article: "Menu Foods last week recalled "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food. The recall sparked concern among pet owners across North America. It includes food sold under store brands carried by Wal-Mart, Kroger, Safeway and other large retailers, as well as private labels such as Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba."

I want to feed my cat high-quality cat food. But this recall has given me the feeling that they are making the same food and slapping different labels on them. Am I wrong to think this?
