I clean out my filter once a week and a few days later, my tank has tons of algae growin in the filter and all over the tank. Does that mean I need a new filter and should i buy an algae eater?

Since I’ll be turning it off for most of the day today (It’s Monday in Germany already) so as not to stress out George.

Or is there a particular amount of time that I can keep my light off and then turning it back one without ‘freaking him out’?

Mind you I have live plants. =)

And George’s species is a betta.

He’ll be the first addition to my tank then after him the oto’s and after that the neon tetras.

I’ve had aquariums for years, but never one with live plants, so I’d like to start delving into said tank types.

I don’t have the money to go too high-tech with it. What are some easy beginner plants for a fresh water, low light aquarium?

I was thinking sellotape but I don’t want to see the bits of tape on the aquarium as it may look messy. Any other suggestions on how I should stick the background onto the back of the aquarium?
Well the area were the tank will be will mean that the background couldn’t be just propped up. Also if I tried too, it may look like it has gaps.

I’m breeding bettas, and you need light so the male can see if any fry fall out of the bubble-nest. I want to use a table lamp instead, but unsure as I heard it could heat the water too much.
Will this happen if I keep it at a distance? My bulb is one of those energy-savers and is 15W.
I already have my heater on at 25 degrees C.

My turtle that ive had for about 5 years is only about the size of my palm. Is there a type of fish i can put in the tank with her that she wont try to eat or fight?

I have a 55 gal aquarium with two lights and my son is going to get a lizard, I have bought a 20gal tank and all that goes with it but the uv light and until I get the extra money would like to know if I could use the aquarium light? until that time. I get conflicting answers so just want more opinions

My family is starting up our aquarium again. it has been years, so we are trying to learn as much as possible.In the past, we used a 40 watt bulb and the fish were fine, but the guy at the pet shop says to go bigger…the tank is 48 inches in length, 18 inches in width and 21 inches in depth in case you needed to know. Any other special advice you can give me?

I live in Miami, FL and my daughter received a small turtle as a gift. She no longer wants it, I can’t give it back to where it came from, I don’t want to keep it in the tank, nor release it into the wild. Does anyone have an idea how to humanely get rid of it at no cost?
