1) How do you start/finish the process?
2) Are there any regulations,or limitations concerning breeds? (Arizona)
3) After certification what are the legal rights/benefits concerning travel i.e, can landlords deny you residence if they have a no pets policy, can you use the bus with dog in toe, can I go to class w dog in toe etc.?
4) Are there legal differences between therapy dogs and see and eye dogs? If so what are they?
PS I’m recovering from Bipolar disorder and my peer told me that my psychiatrist can help me establish the right to have a therapy dog as she has, so I’m considering getting a APBT (Americas Dog), but as you see I’m cautious about getting leases and traveling, so any insight will be appreciated, thanks
I mean TOW

How to train an ADHD therapy dog?

I know the basics for trianing therapy dogs, but i was wondering how you migh train a dog specifically to help people with adhd.
what could a dog to to calm a person down or remind them to stay on task or even remind them to take a medication? how could you train a dog to do tasks needed for an ADHD therapy dog and what would some of the needed tasks be?
trust me, i know plenty about adhd, and i know about what it would and would not qualify for, but adhd can impair daily tasks like remembering things such as taking medication. its just a question.
please just try to answer it without telling me what i already know.

I am trying to find a new house, which is REALLY hard when ignorant insurance companies have banned my breed of dog (dobermann) my 1 1/2 year old neutered male dobe has gone through TONS of training and temperament tests, he is an all around great dog. However the only way to bring him into the house I am currently looking at is to have a prescription for a service or therapy dog. I know people with PTSD sometimes have therapy dogs but what other reasons would I might need a companion dog for?

maybe I’m confused..I see so many people stating they have therapy dogs..what kind of training do these dogs need to have and who do they register them through?
When I think of a service dog, I think of a seeing eye dog and know they need to go through (and pass) alot of training…what about these others?
I was hoping some of these owners could help me out…
my point exactly landi…

My dog got an awful skin infection from either a hospital or nursing home (this was proven from a culture and biopsy). Has this ever happened to anyone’s therapy dogs before?
this is her infection:

and it had been worse than that. It’s been since the beginning of June. The first antibiotic was Simplicef. But she’s been suffering from seizures also (months before the skin infection) and I didn’t know better than to take her to do therapy I should have. Anyway though she was treated by a homeopathic vet also who gave her a remedy for her seizures and skin called silicea, which has been helping, very slowly. The bacteria infection she has though isn’t staff i forget the name but it’s almost only found in hospitals.

I’m so sorry to hear you are going through this too and had been for so long.
sorry for typos- need coffee
1 vet wanted to put her on zeniquin, she said that its good for resistant strains but my dog can’t take it because it triggers seizures
this is the photo I just took today of her skin:

getting better from the last photo was a bit over a week ago.
It isn’t MRSA but that’s great info to know. I have to wait till monday to get the bacteria name it was nothing I heard of before.
Uhave2 have you tried calendula? that’s the cream recommended I think it comforts her.

school psychologist therapy certified dog?

I want to become involved with children and adolescents and work in schools and become a counselor or maybe a school psychologist. I mostly want to help children get through everyday problems and puberty issues, hormones and all that jazz. But I also would like to have a dog with me. I never got to keep a dog when I was young and always wanted one. So then I found out about therapy dogs, and was hoping that if I get a job at a public or private school I would be able to bring a dog with me to work. I dont want to leave them home alone.

Would this be possible? If I got them CGC (Canine Good Citizenship certified) and TDI certified (Therapy dog international certified?) the school would let me bring the dog to work.

I want to be able to bring the kids to me and not nag them to come to my office to spill the beans!! I want them to come of their own free will, (probably just coming for the dog, if possible, but its a great incentive so whatevs) I’m currently in sophomore year, psychology major, of undergraduate college, and am going for an MD because my parents want me to go for psychiatry in medical school. It’s not what I was really going for, but could the same apply as well for a psychiatrist?

thanks for all the help guys!!

What’s it take for a dog to be a therapy dog?

As you may know I’m getting a 6 month old Great Pyrenees pup today. I’ve read what some people have said about them being therapy dogs. I haven’t met my puppy yet but her owner said she is really sweet and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She lives with a cat and two toy poodles. According to her owner the poodles are dominate over her. So I’m kind of thinking about training her to be a therapy dog but I don’t know here to start. What does it take for a dog to be a therapy dog?
Yeah, I know in the earlier question I said guard cause I was getting for a guard for my goats. But thinking about it I kind of want her for a pet instead…
