I found out from someone that you do not want to feed your cat purina cat chow if it has wheat gluten in it. I was just wondering if it would be ok to give your cat ourina cat chow if it doesnt have wheat gluten.

My cat eats only Friskies "sliced with gravy" cat food. He threw it up, twice, the day before the recent recall. Right after he upchucked, I took his food away and put him on a liquid diet, feeding him only the water drained from a can of tuna. The next day news about the recall hit. I keep going back to the Internet to see if Friskies cuts and gravys are on the list and they haven’t shown up. He has not throw up since, but I have not resumed feeding him his Friskies because I am not convinced it hasn’t been affected. I have read the product is not made by Menu Brands who bought the poisoned wheat gluten from China. But that does not mean Friskies didn’t use the same source for their gluten. I’ve gone to the Friskies web site and can’t find anything about this.

Pet food recall?

Just wanted to pass along the latest info on the pet food recall. the pet food Natural Balance for dogs and cats has been recalled . I saw in the news that the chemical melamine, which has contaminated the wheat gluten in a lot of products, has been found in the rice protein concentrate ingrediant in the venesen and rice flavors in that brand. Everybody that has pets, please be careful. This recall just gets crazier and crazier.

So if you look at the ingredients for the regular wet food the mushy ones with the rice and stuff they also contain wheat gluten so if wheat gluten is what they think is the problem then how do they know these dog foods arent going to cause problems too and their other idea is that it was in the corn well there is corn in dry food. im so scared that this is going to become a problem with much more than just the cuts and gravy. and they arent telling us enough.

Importantly, no Purina brand dry pet foods are affected by the recall – including ALPO Prime Cuts dry. In addition, no other Purina dog food products, no Purina cat food products, Purina treat products or Purina Veterinary Diet products are included in this recall, nor have been impacted by the contaminated wheat gluten supply.

At Purina, nothing is more important to us than the health and well-being of the pets whose nutrition has been entrusted to us by their owners, and we deeply regret this unfortunate situation. We will continue to take any and all actions necessary to ensure the quality and safety of our products.

If you search the internet you will find many many cases of cats getting sick or even dying from eating these foods, especially Special Kitty. All we ever fed our cat was Friskies and they seemed fine until about 2 weeks before the recall, they kept throwing it back up. I stopped feeding it to them and switched to Natural Balance but then the kind I was feeding them was recalled. I have been monitering them closely and they don’t seem affected. It was just a small bag of Green Pea and Venison split between 3 cats. I’m still feeding them Natural balance but not the recalled kind. I am thinking of switching to something else but I don’t want to feed them anything with Wheat gluten, rice, or anything made by Menu foods. The only thing I have found that isn’t is Natural balance and Halo and my cat refuse to eat Halo. I just wish that they would pull the Special Kitty and Friskies since it is making cats die. Is anyone still feeding their cat canned Friskies or Special Kitty?

and that’s just a few of the sites I found that had stuff on both these cat foods making cats sick or killing them.

Dog food recall, royal canin?

I feed my mini dachshund the royal canin for dachshunds and now I see that some of royal canins foods have been recalled. Her food isn’t on the list but I am I crazy to feed her anything manufactured by them? Isn’t it made of a lot of the same ongredients in the same factory? Please tell me what you would do! Should I go get her something else or make her food myself?
I did just check the ingredients and it does include wheat gluten and corn gluten ( great answers and opinions so far, thanks.)

Hi,

I’m wondering if Purina Proplan is safe for my cats to consume (just got a big bag of it). I notice it contains wheat gluten and rice gluten as the ingredients.

My other choice is Royal Canin but I need to finish this bag first.
