why do people judge others on what they feed their dog?
if you see someone answer a question about feeding their dog iams or pdeigree or purina, they get bombarded with tds. honestly, are we so immature that we td people who feed the dog lesser quality food?
and to make this legit, what do you feed YOUR dog?
i feed nutro and im aware that its not the best, but i tried canidae and it literally sucked, sucked the weight off my dogs.
you see! here we go again!

well i think its another way to pick people apart see the thing is i feed my dog science diet i realy dont care but i have to feed him that or he will get sick i have golden retreiver and long haired german shepard and in some dog food they use feather ya feathers well back to the subject its basicly like oh i feed my dog 40$ dog food then the average person is like well such and such is good for me you got to think some people the dog gets deathly sick when you sick switch its diet so its like a rank is society i guess which i think is stupid
I agree. I feed Eukanuba and my dogs all do well on it. Tried Wellness, Innova, Canidae….all of them were too rich for them and someone always had the runs.
If what I feed works for my dogs who work….who else should care!!!!!
Hills Science Diet Give it a try I have never used anything other than that
I usually don’t. Most people who feed those "junk foods" to their dogs don’t know any better. They believe that they are feeding good things to their dogs, and believe that their dogs enjoy it (they usually do, when the foods are sprayed with fat and laden with sugar). It’s the people who KNOW that Ol’Roy is crap and still buy it, because it’s "cheaper" that get me going.
Dogs have very specific nutrition needs to be healthy. Dogs would naturally eat mostly meat, lean protein. However the cheaper a dog food is it will generally have less protein and more grain type products, like a cereal, and sometimes a cardboard type filler. Obviously in the wild a dog would not be eating much grain and I would venture to say little to no cardboard, so it is clearly not ideal to be feeding it to them. So people may be critical of it because it’s not fair to a dog for so much of their diet to be stuff they were never designed to consume at all.
Personally I would not feed anything other than Purina One or Hill’s Science Diet
I’m totally with you.
It shows how immature people are…and how right they wanna be.
I can honestly say i don’t TD them…seriously what for!?
Legit: ha don’t be a shamed GP i feed Nutro too….Nutro Ultra Holistic Small Breed Adult and for my pup I feed the same but the puppy version.
I don’t care what people think….i absolutely LOVE Nutro!
They love it…it really put some weight on my chi and it keeps there weight well balanced.
So YUP i feed Nutro
Add: i see my TD fairies are here…sprinkling there dust.
Because cheap dog food will cost more in the long run. More food fed, more feces out, more illness. A dog food that agrees with your dog, that in the long run will help your dog lead a productive, healthy life will make a difference to the owners and the poor dogs.
People think that cheap dog food saves them $$$– It can cost more in a long run.
If your dog didn’t do well on Canidae, there are about 40 other foods that are approved by the Whole Dog Journal as good foods.
i don’t nag at them but i just tell them it is not the best and it has many ingredients that dogs shouldn’t have
i feed my dog canidae mixed with puppy nutro and bill jack
my dog is a puppy
i am not sure if it is bad to feed your dog multiple kinds of dog food mixed together maybe you can tell me
I usually don’t TD anyone unless they are downright nasty or insulting.
However, most dog forums of any kind are quite similar to parenting forums. Emotions and convictions run deep
….some folks uber-research everything and spend mega-bucks to feed only the best, organic, all-natural, dye-free macrobiotic fiber-enriched calcium laden foods to their children. And since THEY put so much time & energy into their kids’ diets, any parent who feeds McDonalds as part of the kid’s regular diet is practically criminal.
So on here, to some people….saying "I feed Purina" or "I feed Ol’ Roy and whatever’s on sale" is akin to saying "I feed my kids chocolate cake and Happy Meals every day and they love it!"
I try not to judge, but I also think you ought to do the best you can for your dog. If you really can’t afford anything but Purina, so be it- a belly full of by-products and a warm place to sleep at night is far better than life on the street, or in a shelter.
But some folks just don’t do the research and think Eukanuba or Science Diet is the "best of the best" just because the vet said so….a little more research would prove otherwise but some folks just don’t want to believe it. IMO if you’re not willing to research all your options and truly find out what is the BEST you can do for your dog, you’re doing him an injustice.
I guess to me its about making an informed decision….if you feel you’ve tried other options and you feel your food is best for your dogs, fine. If it works, feed it…..it’s just the folks who either refuse to inform themselves, or don’t listen to the information when they see it….that bother me, LOL. I still don’t typically TD anyone, but I will hand out thumbs-up by the boat load for what I feel are good answers!
For what it’s worth, I feed Blue Wilderness. Used to feed Nutro Ultra and feel it is a decent quality food, but my female is grain intolerant so we had to find her something different. My male does just as good on Blue as he did on Nutro.
For those who don’t know better, it’s difficult to judge. You can’t fault someone for not knowing, but once they know and choose to do nothing about it, THEN I judge.
And when I do, it’s for the same reasons I judge parents who feed their children NOTHING but crap food (overprocessed, empty calorie, sugar laden, void of nutrition ‘junk’ food). It’s unhealthy for them.
It’s not like the kids or the dogs have the power to change their own food, so they’re at the mercy of the adults in their lives. When you take on the responsibility of another living creature, be it dog or child, you should provide the healthiest option you can for them. It especially bothers me when someone knows how bad the food is and can afford something better, they just choose not to b/c they don’t want to dish out the money.
I used to feed Iams, thought I was doing my dog a favor. Then switched to Kirkland’s Signature and saw an improvement. Started doing my research and found out more about TRUE quality foods. Went through several (including Canidae) before finding the one to fit our budget and that worked perfectly with our dogs…we’ve since settled on Nature’s Variety and love it! Now we know just how great the dogs could actually do. As soon as our budget allows, we’ll look into moving up to an even higher quality food.
My daughter works in a grooming department and has said that those premium foods are not all they are cracked up to be. In addition, people in the rescue league I helped with had the same opinion – with the exception of the vegetable food – no one likes that one. I have fed Proplan and our dogs were healthy on them. The only thing that concerns me is the high amount of cereal in many of the foods, including the one I feed. Cereals can cause allergies. If you look at the contents of many of the ‘premium’ foods, you will find similar analysis in them, other than the possibility of less preservatives or chemicals. Feed your dog what you think is good for it, or ask your vet. We have fed our cats normal store brands of cat food and they have lived for up to 20 years – we also supplemented with little goodies, here and there. Read up and feed what you think is best and what sets with your own dog. Give them bones that don’t splinter or rawhides to chew on because chewing is healthy for dogs.
